*Just noting here all my comments here are about parents, not just moms. I don't know why OP focused on moms, maybe those are at the people she's encountering who are smoking pot. IME this is not something limited to moms. Before I became a parent, I assumed I would be a mom who drank regularly and also occasionally smoked pot or did edibles. I thought this because before becoming a parent, those are things I did. I have never judged people who do that stuff unless it gets sloppy or they develop an addiction, and still don't. But I'm now a mom who barely drinks and never does any drugs unless prescribed by a physician to address a medical issue (I would take medical marijuana if I had a condition that merited it, but I don't and I will not be getting a medical marijuana card on the sly). What changed? A different approach to life and health after having kids. I had TOUGH pregnancies. Also had PPD plus a relapse when I quit breastfeeding. Alcohol and marijuana are depressants, and I do not think they are great for my mental health. It was easier to just continue to not use them once I was done with pregnancies/breastfeeding, than to start back up. I don't judge people who do this stuff at my age (mid 40s) with or without kids, but I do silently wonder if many of the health issues some of my friends deal with at this age (struggles with weight loss, mental health problems, autoimmune issues, gut health) are being exacerbated by drinking and drug habits. I do find it interesting when friends will go on very restrictive diets or medications with a lot of side effects to address health issues, but continue to drink heavily and consume marijuana regularly. It's not my body, not my business, but when people are vocal about this stuff I do silently think to myself that it might be worth it to try to just consume less of these things and see if that makes it easier to manage their health.
