Hmm... a little defensive maybe??? And no, I'm not a "cleaning lady" I went to a very good school and now my child goes to one. You certainly did show what a despicable person you are with that comment. The fact that they own beautiful paintings that have been passed down in their families for generations is not, in any way, comparable to spending three thousand dollars on a ridiculous bag that you will give to goodwill when it goes out of style. I'm sorry but I place a much higher value on truly beautiful art than on a crappy bag that was probably made in a sweatshop. But then, that wouldn't bother you would it? Also, art is worth more to some people than money.
1) You can go to "a very good school" and still be a cleaning lady. Your nose-pressed-against-the-window admiration for the rich suggests as much (and they can certainly afford to hire a decent private school graduate as their maid). 2) One can find great art at much less than millions or tens of of millions of dollars. And you can buy a great copy of any famous painting for less than 100,000 dollars. There are like 3-4 people in the world who could tell that the painting is not the original. But of course, those arts lovers just have to have the multimillion original thing in their bathroom. 3) Great pieces of clothing do not go "out of style". If you had any style, you would know it. Please. If you think expensive clothing is nothing more than conspicuous consumption signifying status, don't lecture me on food and art, when those, too, are the same thing.
Oh please. That is not what I meant. I only mentioned the schools to explain why I am friends with a lot of old money people. I do not admire them because of their money. They are my friends and I like them. That's all. I also understand why they choose to keep their fabulous art collections in their families. I would do the same thing. As far as your assertions about style go, I don't give a shit. Enjoy your conspicuous consumption and your judgements about other women's style choices. I just wanted you to know that all of the cool people think you're pathetic.
