[twitter]

It’s fascinating, Michigan’s reputation seems to be markedly stronger here in DC than back home in Michigan.
That’s because most midwesterners aren’t elitist prestige freaks.
Maybe. I just don’t know anyone who would consider Michigan more prestigious than Northwestern back home in the Midwest.
It is interesting. We are here in the midwest this week for admitted student days at both schools, with a family visit over spring break in the middle. The response around here is "Oh, wow. Northwestern! Congratulations!" Vs "Cool, Michigan! That is a good football school."
Agree with this take. Don’t get me wrong, Michigan is a fantastic school, but for some reason it seems to get a huge amount of hype on DCUM. Northwestern comparatively seems a bit underrated on DCUM.
Because, as a PP noted, UM is literally top 10 in every major it offers. It has across the board excellence in every discipline.
This is only true in the last 10-15 years. Historically, Michigan has had a laughably weak college of Letters and Science, which explains why really no notable academics have ever come out of Michigan. If I look at UChicago, I see academics such as Leo Strauss, Friedman, Carl Sagan. If I look at Wisconsin, I see Robert Serber, John Bardeen, and Stephen Ambrose. Michigan has never produced faculty of that caliber. I mean, maybe something akin to that in business or law, but those really are bs subjects anyway.
The Wisconsin booster back again. Same old crap.
I mean he's not wrong...Michigan boosters always ignore the fact that for the last century Michigan strongly competed with Wisconsin. Yes, things have changed in the 21st century, however you can't just act like Michigan has always been the lone good public; to do so is about as intellectually honest as climate change deniers.
Michigan isn’t the lone good public. There’s also Berkeley and UCLA.
