Modern era: Hillary Clinton followed by Michelle Obama
I wasn’t impressed by MO. Although I think most of her efforts as FL were towards children. And it’s easy to talk about physical education, gardening, dieting, etc. Hillary always sounds intelligent and insightful of politics and current events. Hillary chose poorly for campaign manager. And don’t forget that the 2008 primary was stolen from her by the DNC to be the presidential candidate. She easily would have beaten McCain.
The WH intentionally made MO choose a lightweight topic because they knew Fox would go ballistic if she chose something political and they still went ballistic about school lunches . I appreciate that thanks to MO, added sugar is now a legal requirement on nutrition labels. It wasnt required before and I don’t think people notice but anyone with diabetics in the family truly appreciate that and it will especially help black and Latin communities and hopefully help reverse diabetes which is a huge expense on healthcare dollars
The Obamas are very private people in that we really know very little what they think or believe behind closed doors, and most of their supporters project onto the Obamas what they wish to see, which is why the ideals are often different from the reality. For all the progressive idolization of Obama at the onset of his tenure, it's hard to deny his greatest accomplishment was to make rich people richer while barely doing anything to help working Americans, which is one reason for the big Bernie movement in 2016. Are we surprised Michelle Obama has no political interests, prior to the WH she held a sinecure job as a hospital VP that had no real clout. In the WH she was traditional, more like another Laura Bush than an activist first lady even though her husband's administration had no shortage of accomplished female policy makers. Blaming it on Faux news is silly, it was because MO really had no interest in anything more. Now she is a wealthy woman living a private life of leisure. To call MO professionally accomplished is a bit mystifying. HRC for all her flaws is professionally accomplished.
