OP here-- Thanks for your insight. I can certainly appreciate your anger and have a pretty good grasp of the stupidity that occurred in the wake of the Rodney King beatings in L.A. My question, however, concerns whether or not there are underlying issues here in the D.C. area-- if you, a representative of your community, tell me that lingering feelings from the L.A. riots contribute toward racial tensions here in D.C., then I believe you and accept that as part of a larger answer to what happened to me today.[/quote]

You are the dangerous kind of racist. The same behavior continues to be exhibited by the Asian community. So no the relationship has not changed. Again, I am more fearfull of the Vietnamese street gangs in northern va then I am of young African American males.
