I have a 100 yo great grandmother named Bette (pronounced Betty), her actual name.  I don't see anything wrong with it.  Is Bette classier than Betty?  Bette Davis comes to mind.[/quote]

I think it is a niche name, and it's unfortunate that parents would subject their child to that. The funky hipster vintage thing only has so much duration and then you are stuck looking at your 12-yo named "Betty" and thinking that maybe it would have been better to name her Elizabeth. [/quote]
