Have you checked Fairfax County Public School demographics inside the Beltway lately?  Most of them are 30-70% hispanic.  I live in NoVA, and my 10 month old DD already understands Spanish thanks to her proactive mother - me.  She and I will laugh at kids who go to her public school and speak a useless language like Chinese but no spanish.

There are 1 billion speakers of Mandarin, and a good many live in one of the fastest expanding economies in the world.  There are 390 million speakers of Spanish.  While Spanish may have more practical use in this local area, it is ridiculous to describe Chinese as a useless language.[/quote]
