MCPS needs to get rid of restorative Justice and start enforcing true consequences. Kids are smart and we need to stop treating them like infants. As we continue to lower the bar of expectations, the kids will continue to lower their expectations of themselves. This is true for academics and behavior.

Wrong. Schools are doing just fine without the SROs, which have been shown to make schools less safe. RJ is also fine when used correctly. MCPS still uses detention and suspension. Blaming RJ is just right-wing PR.

Clearly neither of you have kids especially in MS and HS in MCPS if you think things are ok.  [b]Gun laws will not help [/b]as people can buy on the black market or make their own.

I am amazed at how relaxed about kids coming late, skipping class and other behaviors at our HS.  We have a closed campus and the principal told the parents it's ok that the kids leave campus for lunch and that they aren't monitoring it.  Schools need to have consequences and work with interested parents if their kids are struggling or having behavior problems.  I would want to know and if my kids are in trouble at school, they will be in trouble at home too.

RJ is a joke.  The abuser has to apologize, no consequences so what's stopping them from doing it again.  If kids get to MS or HS and cannot understand their behavior is wrong by then, they aren't going to learn in an apology session.  Lets be real.[/quote]

No, it violence happens in many other countries too.  Be real.  Why do you think so many are fleeing their countries to come here?  You really think they want to?  Nope, only the wealthy.  They aren't risking their lives because their countries are safe and good.

What will help is metal detectors, more security (I couldn't care less if you call it security guards, SRO's or CRO's) and holding kids accountable for their behavior as well as with serious things, holding parents accountable.  Parents need to step up more and parent and stop expecting the schools to fix their kids.  If as parents you cannot, how do you think the school can?[/quote]

I agree with all of this. A shooter isn’t going to worry about whether the gun they use is legal or not. And with so many guns in the US, it wouldn’t be hard for someone to find one. Or even make one.

No need for hyperbole. Body armor for kids is illogical and you know it.
