Friendly reminder: In 2022, only 290 in 71,954 federal criminal cases—about 0.4%—went to trial and were acquitted. Overall, the federal government has something like 97% conviction rate . The corrupt scum bag can play hard-to-get all he wants but I see a plea deal coming. At his age , a stiff sentence might as well be called a life sentence and he couldn't be more deserving. -Bleeding liberal.
Friendly reminder. Same guy took his last case on very similar allegations all the way to trial and got off.
More precisely, he got a hung jury and then Trump’s DOJ opted not to try him again.
And in the meantime, SCOTUS and the second circuit have been throwing out public corruption cases left and right. Earlier this year, SCOTUS threw out the conviction of a former Cuomo aide who was taking money from developers who was using his power to get them out of having to negotiate with unions. And the the second circuit threw out the conviction of state senator who was taking money in return for helping to direct grants. And the second circuit also threw out a few counts of Sheldon Silver's conviction for accepting bribes. It's become very very hard to prove bribery of public officials, even when it is very clear they took money from people and then did things that helped those same people out.
