For all of you who think this policy is just transphobia or whatever and are throwing tantrums, how many girls in conservative countries do you want to drop out of chess? All the Muslim ones? African ones? What is the price you want the girls to pay so mostly American and European, mostly white adults born as male get what they want? Do you understand anything about international chess development for girls? Or do you just not care?
Why would girls from conservative countries drop out?
Because due to strong cultural norms or actual laws, separation of the sexes is practiced all over the world, including in parts of Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa. The people who leftists in the West call “trans women” are males by sex and are simply known as men in countries that do not subscribe to gender ideology. Allowing these men in the women’s league would prevent the participation of women and girls from cultures where women are not allowed to socialize with random men. As at least one response in this thread already shows, trans activists don’t care if the most disadvantaged and oppressed women are shut out of opportunities so that natal males can be affirmed in their subjective assessment of their gender. Plenty of people care, however, and would argue that women’s sports weren’t created to affirm men.
This is really important. Thank you for explaining it so clearly, PP. On a personal note, I hope this is the first of many such decisions that preserve women-only initiatives. [NP]
