Sail racing. I'm a reluctant sailor, having taken some lessons with DH, who's passionate about it but discovered it late in life. A colleague who's really into sailing found out about our recent training and asked us to join her team in sail racing. I dreaded it, given our inexperience, but ended up loving every minute. It was exhilarating, and our team was laid back and fun.
Agreed, DH wrote into our wedding vows my learning to sail. Went to J-World in Annapolis, took a women's intro to sailing class. That weekend class piqued my interest in performance sailing. Found myself a race boat and have been part of the crew for a few seasons now. It's far more fun than I ever imagined. I thank my DH for encouraging me to learn to sail. Together we've enjoyed many weekends chartering on the Chesapeake Bay, the Florida Keys, and this summer New England. The action is on the water, from afar sailboat racing looks much like golf - slow and boring. On the water, the action is in crossings and mark roundings. I've found my jam, and look forward to my weeknight sailboat racing with the girls
