[twitter]https://twitter.com/FrankFigliuzzi1/status/1659565366794756100[/twitter]
This is a BFD. The guy in charge of intelligence at MPD was in constant communication with the leader of the Proud Boys who was planning to attack the city, leading up to one of the greatest law enforcement intelligence failures ever.
Tip of the iceberg. Law enforcement is full of right wing extremists.
FULL of them. FULL. See why some of us still want the police defunded? This is why.
I’d prefer to see them reformed by outside agencies. We need police, but we need them to be functional. Disciplinable. Accountable. A Minnesota police officer was just convicted of raping three children; sentence?: 90 days plus time served. Probably just going to move to a new location later and continue being a police officer.
Yes, the whole "defund the police" NEVER meant, no police.
+1. I hate the rightwing trope that thinks the left doesn't want police. It's a really, really hard freaking job and I have the utmost respect for those that serve and protect in the truest sense of those words. The problem is, there are plenty of desk jockey cops who do not walk the beat, do not engage and build trust in the community, and are immune to few, if any, consequences, and then, get a lifetime pension before 50. What I want is accountability. If there are bad apples on the police force, then they should be fired and should be held personally liable. I don't see why police officers should be held to a different standard for malpractice than physicians. Force them to take out personal malpractice insurance. Heck, Republicans should be all for this -- belief in efficient markets and all.
