It’s de facto legal to shoplift in California now: https://www.hoover.org/research/why-shoplifting-now-de-facto-legal-california The law was passed many years ago. D.C. simply copied California.
Making something a misdemeanor does not make it legal. The law is not the problem, the lack of enforcement is.
Enforcement? Are you joking? You must be joking.
What are you on about? People steal, it's a misdemeanor. They could be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. But they're not. That's called a lack of enforcement.
+1 Shine a light on the stats DMv, stop hiding them. Last 5 year trend is terrible. Cars theft, break ins, stolen packages, looting of stores, smash & grabs, serious traffic violations, turning out incarcerated people, gang activity, etc
Nice trolling. Now post the stats for all of the categories that WENT DOWN. How can crime go down when the same prosecutors were in office? Why is crime up in conservative districts as well?
This is OP. What planet are you on that you think crime is going down?
The planet where I can read basic english and count past 10. If you’re so sure then why not post the assault with a deadly weapon crime rate for the last 20 years? If you are correct that liberal policies cause crime then the number from 2003 should be lower than today. Go ahead.
Huh? First of all, I am a liberal (OP here) hence why I want to stay in the freaking city. But I also LIVE HERE and know that we never had crime in our immediate area save a few package thefts and now there is really scary violent crime way too frequently. Also this: Offense 2022 2023 Percent Change Homicide 72 78 8% Sex Abuse 42 62 48% Assault w/ a Dangerous Weapon 485 489 1% Robbery 821 948 15% Violent Crime - Total 1,420 1,577 11% Burglary 381 346 -9% Motor Vehicle Theft 1,155 2,448 112% Theft from Auto 2,599 2,784 7% Theft (Other) 3,418 4,247 24% Arson 2 8 300% Property Crime - Total 7,555 9,833 30% All Crime - Total 8,975 11,410 27% 2022 Year End Crime Data* Year-end 2022 data accurate as of January 1, 2023.
And if you look at 5 year trends you can see that there is no crime surge that was caused by “DAs that are soft” or “defunding the police” since the long term trend has been decreasing crime.
