Our in home daycare in Virginia was still subject to the 4:1 infant to caregiver ratio that the expensive corporate centers are. What state do you live in? We can afford any care option but have always chosen high quality daycare options for our kids (both the fancy centers and the in home options at different times). I never considered a nanny since that feels the riskiest of all the options to me because you are putting your trust in a single individual with no oversight whatsoever. At least with a daycare, I know they have random inspections, oversight from other families and staff. I see too many nannies at the playground with the little ones sitting on their phones not interacting at all.
The issue is at least in MD there is flexibility in ratios when you have a mixed age group. An in home provider can have 8 children as long as only 2 are under 2.
