Government cover up makes less sense. Except by Malaysian government shielding themselves from culpability, law suits and Shame. They already pumped 1 million into the airline and took it over to prevent it going completely bust.

1. The pilot simulated the exact same path a month before - he had the skills and experience to carry this terrible plan out. 
2. The pilot was having marital problems probably due to the affair he was having. His wife and kids moved out the day before the incident. He was reportedly extremely upset about his family imploding. 
3. The pilot chose a midnight red eye flight when there were even less air traffic control than usual and his copilot was a complete novice so unlikely to challenge his decisions. 
4. There is no reason for the British company Inmarsat to fake the data. 
5. Many pieces of debris were later found on cluttered African beaches, which is where you would expect it to wash up if plane was downed in Indian Ocean. 
6. Malaysian government withheld info about pilot’s mental health, family problems and simulation of strange flight path that is not useful for commercial flights.
