The commercial areas were dumpy in the 60s and 70s because the money had moved further west and then Metro tore up Wilson Boulevard, where much of the retail was located, for years. The Vietnamese revived Clarendon in the 70s/early 80s before getting pushed out. Ballston Quarter or whatever it's called now used to be called Parkington and was anchored by a Hecht's department store that was kind of like a J.C. Penney's but not as nice as the Woodward & Lothrop stores elsewhere in the area (Seven Corners, downtown DC). [/quote]
