The resentment towards blacks after the passage of Prop 8 served to make gay black people feel alienated within their own community. Additionally, pro-gay rights black people do not like their struggle for civil rights to be equated with the fight for gay rights when they are also made the scapegoat. Basically, don't say "Hey, our struggle is the same!" AND "You're the reason for my oppression!"
"Gay rights" are civil rights.
Hi, you seem to have some reading comprehension issues. The post you quoted did not state or even imply that gay rights are not civil rights. Glad to see that's all you got from the post, though.
I am 14:30, here to add a bit more. The fight for black civil rights in the US is commonly referred to as the Civil Rights Movement. The fight for gay civil rights in the US is commonly referred to as the Gay Rights Movement. As such, that is how I referred to the issues in my posts. Yes, gay rights are civil rights. But "gay rights," even without the word "civil" sandwiched in between, gets the point across for most people. Or at least these people think so: http://www.hrw.org/topic/lgbt-rights (uses "LGBT" instead of gay) http://www.columbia.edu/~jrl2124/Lax_Phillips_Gay_Policy_Responsiveness_2009.pdf http://www.towleroad.com/2012/01/the-gay-rights-movement-video.html http://tinyurl.com/7mev2fb http://civilliberty.about.com/od/gendersexuality/tp/History-Gay-Rights-Movement.htm http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1900959,00.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/timeline/stonewall/
