If secularism is that important, why don't we require that all children attend public schools? The choices available to some currently are not available to others, and public school systems like FCPS are terribly managed. Those running FCPS talk about equity constantly but do very little to ensure that students can attend safe schools with adequate facilities or have access to similar programs at the schools they attend. The arguments about how great public schools are began to wear thin years ago and only seem to be getting weaker every year. At some point the house of cards will collapse and we'll start funding parents not school systems.
NP... because we're not interested in taking away religious liberty from those who choose to pursue such schools, but we just don't want public government funds used to support those private religious institutions? I'm not sure what's difficult to understand about that.
It's not difficult to understand. It may be a bit hypocritical, in that some are in a position to "pursue such schools," while others aren't, and it's clearly not imperative that youths be taught the values of the public school establishment as part of their upbringing, or we wouldn't allow private schools. Be that as it may, as school systems like FCPS demonstrate that they are incapable of meeting their basic responsibilities in a timely or efficient manner, more families will leave the public school system and more taxpayers will lobby for vouchers in lieu of large government transfers to school systems, so that they are not paying twice.
