That map is inaccurate. Foremost, Western countries deny that the Ottoman Empire was a colonial power because Western Europe academics define Colonialism, and the Ottoman Empire emerged in a very different way. Hence, the Western Academia and the Turks enforced the exclusion of the Ottoman Empire as a Colonial Empire. For, now they are victims, no? Not evil Imperialists. And if they were an Empire, the Western powers could not call the territories claimed by the Ottomans after their loss in WWI uncivilized and savages.
Further, Bosnia and Hercegovina became annexed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It would be more accurate to show Croatia, Bosnia, and parts of Romania as being conquered by the Habsburg Empire; they were not independent entities like map states. That map is inaccurate, putting present-day countries on the map that most certainly did not exist in Colonial times.
Saying under European control is also inaccurate; I don't recall Bulgaria ever holding a colony anywhere. Nor Serbia, nor Romania, heck, nor Greece, nor Slovenia. So, do not put us in your conquerors of the world hat.[/quote]
