The entire interview so everyone can judge for yourself. It’s more life advise than political commentary, but a lot of his points aren’t that radical imo: *Humanities degrees aren’t worth that much, but you should go to college for specialized degrees *Internet porn is bad *Being promiscuous in your 20s is overrated and unfulfilling you should get married and have kids instead
Good summary. Anyone even a tiny bit honest would admit that all of that is true. Doesn't really matter whether your kids are in college getting their humanities degrees (as mine are). My spouse and I are well-aware that specialized or STEM degrees would have been more lucrative for them. However, they are not STEM-types, so it is what it is. I don't disagree with what he's saying.
You don't disagree that people should have more children than they can afford, and that it's terrible that women want to have sex in their 20s because that means they're acting like men?
He followed that children line with “and get a job you’re not qualified for,” meaning, if you’re not dense, that you should take on more responsibility in your personal and professional life than you think you can handle. I never knew “aim for the stars” was a controversial statement, but maybe when that sentiment is applied to building a family and not strictly making money or advancing your career you find that offensive somehow? Very telling… And he didn’t say that thing about women at all. You are misquoting him. He basically said that women have been misled into thinking that being promiscuous is somehow liberating, when in reality it usually it’s the opposite. Ask women how many regrets they have about casual encounters and then ask men the same question and see how the responses break down by gender. Of course this is an obvious point to anyone who is not a raving ideologue, but you knew that anyway. If Michelle Obama said she gave the same advise to her daughters (don’t sleep around in your 20s and aim for the stars in your family and professional life) you would not even bat an eye.
Yes, sure, I can only imagine the force 10 s$it storm on right wing media, including the Carlson show, if Michelle Obama had told young black man to drop out of college, get a mate at 20 and have so many children they cannot afford. That would have been an off- the charts hurricane. We n the advice to women, Tucker is going for his usual worldview where (white) men are now emasculated because, unlike in the glorious 50s, they are not by default the ones getting the good jobs and ruling their homes with the power of the purse, while the smiling wife, who “saved” herself for marriage, now happily takes care of the house. In his worldview, any woman who does not accept to subordinate herself to a man is a threat. Nobody says that having sex every night drunk with a different stranger met a bar is a good idea. But simply you are not a slut if you chose your relationships carefully and have several before you find the person you want to share your life with. If people are Christians and want to get to their wedding night as a virgin because of their faith, good for them, just don’t force your morals down other peoples throats
Like most people who are critical of this interview, it also seems like you haven’t even seen it. He didn’t advise white men to do anything, he didn’t mention race or gender at all. He advised young people in general. He never said anything about Christianity guiding his advice to marry early and have kids young either, nor did he refer to women as sluts for having multiple partners. He said having children gives you more purpose than drinking, sleeping around, brunching, and going on vacations. He also said at the end of the interview that kids are extremely difficult, but every great thing in life is difficult, and all the trouble will be worth it when you have a large family at your deathbed (presumably with many grandchildren since you had kids so early) because there will be nothing more important in your life than not dying alone without anyone who cares about you in a real sense beside you. If you knew anyone who had a death like this, and how deeply sad and cold that experience is, you would see his point. All these points aren’t even political really. And I personally wouldn’t chide Michelle Obama for giving the same advice to all young people (you’re injecting race into his statements so I don’t know why she by necessity has to be referring to Black men in your example) though I imagine some partisans would. That doesn’t make the points he was making that radical though and point stands that Barack Obama has offered similar insights to young people, and when he did so I had no problem with his points as well.
