Never did an airbnb, I was interested in buying a home to raise my family that has a community pool. tennis, etc . RE mentioned I could also do short term rentals. So as a homeowner neighbor, I can get a revolving door of guests, like a hotel next door, so 30 people (or more) could show up to party, as I am putting my kids to sleep? WTH? So people are renting out a house in a residential neighborhood & have no idea who is staying there? If a host asks to talk to a renter, they are weird, suspect, &/or doing something "against the rules"? Or they are racist and/or should be reported for asking to talk to a potential guest?
Just because you don't understand how systemic, stereotypic and subconscious bigotry works, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. AirBnB has these rules in place because clients HAVE been discriminated against in the past. So, if you want to actually be a host on airBnB, you need to read the regulations and actually follow them. If you don't want to follow the rules, then choose a different way to rent out your short term rental that does not use the platform that has the rules you don't want to follow. Very easy. You are welcome to go to the old school route and find a property management company, pay them fees and have them list and rent out your short-term. So, basically learn to follow the rules and do all of your communication via the trackable channels that airBnB can monitor to make sure you aren't breaking any other rules and can adjudicate claims from both sides, or find another way to rent out your place. No one is forcing you to use airBnB.
