Thought it was terrible. Trying so hard to be edgy and just gratuitous. Although I do really like Zendaya.
Agree--gratuitous. Felt like voyeurism, as if the director of someone was getting off on filming sex scenes and pretending "this is real life for today's teens." Stopped watching after a while because there didn't seem to be much storytelling point to it all other than showing the sex and drug use.
Teens? Zendaya is 25.
DP and I agree with PP. She may be 25 but most of the characters being portrayed are around 16. I watched some of season 1 to see what the buzz was about. It's just another show fetishizing teen sex and drugs. I don't really understand why adults enjoy watching teens behave badly so much, but there are plenty of shows and movies that indicate they do. Are there even any redeemable characters? I am simultaneously horrified and bored by shows like this where its just a bunch of stupid people making bad decision after bad decision. Nobody under 18 should be watching this.
My 12yo students are watching.
+1 My 15 year old high school students keep trying to convince me to watch. I find it disturbing that they like it so much. I watched 20 minutes when the first season came out and found it incredibly depressing and disturbing.
It makes me incredibly sad how kids cannot be kids anymore. They have the rest of their lives to be exposed to this stuff. When you think back to what we were exposed to by comparison.
