What was the conversation about?
Redshirting
It sounds like they know you did not get in and is sort of advising you to repeat the year? Did you ask?
No, no need to ask. They were very clear as to why they were calling, what they were thinking, wanted to hear our thoughts, and if we would accept if the opportunity was presented.
So redshirting could come up in this stage of the game?
I can tell you my experience. My DS had a birthday that is the last day before the cut off. So about 3 weeks before K decisions, the school called to discuss our feelings on PK vs. K placement. They conveyed what the teachers observed during the kindergarten visit, what his preschool teacher said in the recommendation but wanted to know our position. We had mixed feelings. They suggested a follow up “play date”, so my son had a visit to the younger classroom (PK). They called after the visit and said they were recommending not redshirting. So he was accepted and went to kindergarten having just turned 5 a few days before school started. This was all at a local k-8 school and a sibling application.
