This is not necessarily true. Diseases like Smallpox and Polio never declined in their ability to cause death and sever, lasting damage, which is why finding ways to create immunity to them (cowpox, variolation, eventually vaccines) for them was so urgent. Other serious diseases (leprosy, rabies, measles, diphtheria, bubonic plague, tetanus…) we have also managed to control with vaccines or effective treatments. Public Heath measures are also critical (toilets and plumbing, soap and washing hands before food prep, mosquito nets…). Using a multi-faceted approach to experiment and find the most effective means for controlling each health risk is super-important. [/quote]
