As it gets more and more difficult to get into "good" colleges, the unhooked, white and well-off look at schools that a generation ago would not have been on a college list.  A slow dribble of interest, one or two who actually enroll, and reports back of receiving a terrific education and a happy college experience, and before you know it the high school sends a half dozen or so per year to a particular college.  Clemson may be the flavor of the month.  In my day it was USC (South Carolina), Charleston and Elon.[/quote]

Sure. But some of the PP would have you believe that these private grads all have scores to get into UChicago or W&M out of state or whatever but they just want to have fun so they went for...Clemson.  Not UNC-Chapel Hill, Tulane, one of the UCs or a dozen other warm, fun southern schools with better reputations that would match their supposed scores.  As if there aren't kids in the bottom half at the privates--they weren't the academic strivers at the private and they aren't the academic strivers for college and they will do just fine career-wise and socially.  I think it's great they found a place they love--I just have no idea why people have to puff up some fake explanation about their academic qualifications when that's not even what they are seeking.  Just call it what it is.[/quote]
