I think the motivation of the old guy is just the thrill. The point is that in contrast to the desperation of the debt-ridden players who would just like enough money to have a calm, secure, normal life, the old guy who organized it and his rich friends have everything money could buy. They have it all and have done it all and now they're bored. For them this was just for fun.[/quote]
