$0 - SAHM, former (and future?) lawyer Husband's income has more than tripled (to over $1.5 million annually) since we decided it was best for us for one of us to stay home while the other one ramped up his career.
when the next "what does your DH make?" thread is posted, we'll call you.
Was that necessary? This is why men will always rule over women. You just couldn't pass up the chance to be nasty huh? Did it make you feel better about your life?
Haha, not the PP but have you ever heard men talking to each other? They razz on each other waaay more harshly than PP's comment! doubt snark is the reason for the wage gap, my dear. :) Besides, I agree with PP...this isn't a HHI thread, so SAH PP should have said $0. PP is right that there will be a HHI thread again soon, where DH salaries can be shared. I think PP would have been less irritated if SAH PP had been upfront that it was DH's salary instead of phrasing it to appear that she earned that money (it also irritated me as it came across as braggy and dishonest).
I am the PP SAHM who stated that I make $0 and that my husband's income has increased significantly. I added that for a purpose. I'm assuming that the OP, and anyone reading this thread, is doing so for a reason. If someone is thinking about how to increase their family's income, I think it is relevant to know that it can be quite profitable to have one spouse at home and one focus hard core on his or her career. In our situation, our family income is significantly greater because one of us dedicates a tremendous amount of time to work, while the other of us takes care of most of the home and family-related duties. This is the case with a number of families I know. FWIW, my annual income at my last job was over $350,000, so it's not as though I'm incapable of earning my keep as many on DCUM would seem to Assume of SAHMs. This is just what works best for us for many reason, and has turned out to be far more profitable for the family.
Do we really need to turn this thread into another WOHM vs SAHM thread? OP asked how much YOU make (not DH). Wonderful that you have a system that works for you, but just completely irrelevant to this thread. This is not intended as a slight against you or SAHMs, so please don't feel like you need to be defensive - what you do is great but it doesn't belong in a thread about salaries.
PP SAHM mom here. You' e got to be kidding me. Read my original post, and then look at some of the obnoxious responses. So, if I were my husband and posted by income, that would be fine and relevant. But, because I'm the one who logged in the information is irrelevant. Crazy. Again, I'm assuming op and others are looking at least in part for ways to increase their family's incomes (otherwise why ask only about compensation rather than other aspects of jobs. One way to do it for some is to focus on one person's career. Why the heck should I not post that? If it's not applicable to your profession, or if it pains someone to consider this possibility, ignore the post for God's sake. This is not about SAHM v. WOHM (I've been both and don't really see it as a "war" or "debate," just choices and balancing). My post is about finances, pure and simple. Wow.
You're just wrong. The title of the thread is "How much do you make?" Not "how much does your DH make?" "How much DID you make?" etc. Original PP was spot-on.
