Interesting that it was just announced that he is dating Olivia munn
If this is true, it actually makes me sad. With where he is in his recovery and his divorce, starting a new relationship now is not a good sign for his mental health or his recovery.
A new relationship right after a drunk divorce and being alone actually was great for Ben Affleck? Ana de Armas in 2020 got him great publicity, sobriety and he looked more put together.
You mean the relationship where she dumped him shortly after they moved in together because he was too clingy and needy, so he immediately started calling JLo (even though she was still with ARod) because he couldn’t cope with being alone? Yes, it sounds like Ben Affleck is in a very good place emotionally, with all of his admitted occasional “slip-ups” in his sobriety.
Yes, the one where they were all over each other for a year with happy pics. He was in a much better place and not constantly drunk 24/7. So he was emotionally needy - who cares? They both got something out it and came out better. I haven’t seen any hint of Ben relapsing which is more than could be said about his time in his marriage.
You are talking about a temporary career boost, I’m talking about mental health. Ben Affleck has admitted to have “slip-ups” in his sobriety since his last rehab stint in 2018. There were also rumors late last year that Ana de Armas was pressured to end the relationship by James Bond producers because Affleck was having lapses in his sobriety and they didn’t want her associated with that while promoting the film. This is getting away from John Mulaney, though, so I will bring it back to my original point, which is that jumping into a new relationships so soon after rehab and leaving his wife is a red flag for his mental health, and this for his ability to maintain his sobriety. As someone who has seen this up close in her own family, it makes me sad for him. Ben Affleck is merely another example that illustrates the pattern.
I agree that it’s almost always a bad idea to jump into a relationship at this point in one’s recovery. That said, I can see how the divorce might be something he needed to do and a part of his recovery. If an addict stays in a relationship that isn’t healthy for them, it can make it much more difficult for them to not to fall off the wagon.
