It fascinates me how little people know or understand county politics. All incorporated areas in the county have a political advantage. Beyond that, for a good period of time 4 out of 9 council members came from Takoma Park. It is one of the reasons why there was a push to expand the council. All it took to win a council seat was to cater to 10,000 Takoma Park residents which would give you enough votes to make Top 4 in the At-Large Democratic primary which assures that you win the General. 10,000 Takoma Park voters basically controlling the government of a county with 1 million people.
Sounds to me like that's more on the rest of the county. Or perhaps Takoma Park just reflects the county as a whole the way Ohio did for presidential elections for many years.
You think the woke lunatics in TP represent Olney, Bethesda, Potomac, Poolseville, Darnestown, Clarksburg, and Damascus?
If 10,000 TP residents control MoCo, it's either TP reflects the county as a whole (not any particular neighborhood) or their mafia is really good. But of course anyone using "woke lunatic" has an agenda more nefarious.
It's that 2nd one. And it's called the Democrat Machine which in MoCo is controlled be progressives. Hopefully the moderate Dems in MoCo will wake up and start voting for non-socialists. How we ever let that happen is a complete mystery to me.
I think the "Democratic machine" is part of the explanation, but not in a nefarious way. Political parties are organizations, and you can't just parachute into an organization and ask to be given a leadership role. So, east county Democrats are, for whatever reason, more likely to have been involved in the party and therefore more likely to get support from the "machine." So, if you are a moderate Democrat and you think you want to run for an at-large seat in the County Council, find out when the MoCo Dems meet and start volunteering. In 3-5 years you'll have the relationships you need to make your run.
