It’s so sad how strongly you will all defend alcohol to your deaths, just to justify your own use. You don’t think smoking was also once such a thing?
Well alcohol has been around for much of human history, while chemical filled cigarettes were mostly an invention of the 20th century. But keep plugging away at those false equivalencies.
Actually, like alcohol use, smoking tobacco goes back 5000 years and is culturally significant in many cultures, but usually on ceremony, not as a frequent habit. But hey, myou keep defending your daily poison, your way. I’m guessing you don’t want to know that drinking a bottle of wine is the same as smoking 5-10 cigarettes, right? Because you enjoy it.
What on earth are you talking about? The same as smoking cigarettes?
https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/alcohol/alcohol-fact-sheet https://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh293/193-198.pdf
The NIH doc with the Italian/Swiss study actually discredits the statement that "alcohol is the same as cigarettes" if you actually read the study (I know, I know, so much to ask). And they found an elevated (75%) risk of some of the cancers studied for drinkers at 2 standard drinks a day. Nothing in this about levels less than that, which is what most people in this thread are talking about.
Not to mention the risks of other "deadly" activities, like, ahem, sitting (https://www.cancer.org/latest-news/sitting-time-linked-to-higher-risk-of-death-from-all-causes.html ) or sugar (https://osher.ucsf.edu/patient-care/integrative-medicine-resources/cancer-and-nutrition/faq/sugar-and-cancer) Everyone has their own risk tolerance, and people allocate it differently. People can take on more risk w/r/t alcohol than you might thinks is wise, but that doesn't mean that they're alcoholics or are going to end up with cancer because of their drinking. (Personal disclosure: I exercise religiously. I have never smoked, don't do drugs of any kind, have about 8 drinks a week, eat a balanced diet, take a lot of plane trips in normal times. I'm comfortable with my risk threshold. If I had a family history of alcoholism or cancer, which I don't, I'd probably drink less.)
