My SIL gave me a body composition scale and fit bit for my bday. Ds was a year old and I had struggled hard with PPD after he was born. She knew, though I don't think she knew how bad it was. Anyways, I initially lost all the baby weight plus 10 pounds. And then gained 50, some of which was water weight from meds. My SIL is very much into fitness , no dairy gluten and sugar type of person. She used to make snide comments about what people ate or looked like, but I could ignore it. I had been dreading my bday. I had the PPD under control but my self esteem was very low. DH and my therapist thought it would be good to have this party. I invited SIL because I felt I had to but figuring she wouldn't come. But nope she did. So I opened up a scale and fit bit in front of 25 friends and family with her saying that now I could take care of "all of this" while air portraying a fat silhouette. It was humiliating. That was a couple of years ago. I've since lost the weight and mentally am in a great place. Dhs brother has finally realized she sucks and is getting a divorce.
Did anyone say anything?! That’s horrible.
I was so stunned I feel like I blacked out the immediate reaction. Apparently DH started yelling at her and told his brother something along the lines of "see I told you she's a effing B**ch". My dad was shooting death glares and my best friend and mom ushered me away. To my credit, I sobbed for 5 min and told dh to tell people to stay. He obviously kicked his brother and wife out. The rest of the party was fun. As weird as it sounds, it was also a decent turning point for me. I wanted to be able to enjoy parties again and be myself. So I started carving out the "me time" that dh and my therapist had been begging me to take. But yeah, it was pretty horrible. It strained dhs relationship with his brother for awhile because he was so mad that he continued to put up with her behavior. It wasn't the first time (or last) that she gave a family member an insulting gift.
