There's nothing petty about being sad for the loss of something your child dearly loves.  In addition, there is no doubt that the arts community and especially the performing arts will be deeply and negatively impacted by the pandemic well after lockdowns end.  Performances like Nutcracker provide the funds that keep those companies going - and finances their outreach art programs for lower income kids and scholarships for dancers etc.  [/quote]

+1 Another Nutcracker family. My daughter is 8 and was planning to audition for the same pre-professional production that she was in last year. She's really struggling with the fact that auditions have been postponed and will (likely) be cancelled. She understands why she hasn't left the house the past two months (her brother has a medical condition that puts him in a high risk category), but grappling with the fact that the world won't be back to normal is December is pretty overwhelming for an 8-year-old.
