The Nats didn’t misrepresent anything, people just didn’t read. Anyone who knows anything about sports would know that unless you have season tickets, there are no guarantees you’ll be able to buy tickets directly from the team.
+1 It is like this in every sport and in every playoff. All these people who aren't plan holders thinking they can just waltz in and snag WS tix are nuts. Either pay the secondary prices or invest in seats like the thousands who ended up with tickets did, particularly the ones who have been plan holders since 2005.
Eh let people be disappointed. Rather than "waltzing in" as you imply, lot of fans have supported this team for years, are really excited (!!) and wanted to be there to support the team in person. We have a half-season plan and are going, but this is only the second year we've done it (kids are off to college so we have the benefit of time now). Whereas I have co-workers who were season ticket holders for several years before having kids, and they were shut out. We got extra tickets for my parents too, whereas my dad's old buddies that he attended Senators games with growing up had no such luck. Timing is everything sometimes. DH is from the NY area and as he put it, "everyone there knows the World Series is for season ticket holders and the celebrities." This was the first time the Nats have made it this far, and playoff tickets have always been relatively easy to procure. I'm pretty sure most NLCS ticket holders knew nothing was guaranteed, but expected more than a 1% chance of getting a ticket. I don't know of anyone who was able to buy during the (inappropriately named) NLCS presale. It was a miscalculation by the team management and if we are so fortunate as to reach the world series again, I'm sure there will be changes to the distribution process.
