No one is denying she is was very successful. All I am saying is that she was successful in the cultural context of White America. If a person outside of America who has no idea of famous models, and is shown pictures of Paulina, Gigi Hadid and Lupita - they will find Paulina, Gigi and Lupita beautiful but not Kate Moss. That she was famous because of her walk and association with famous designers etc - s not being debated. She is just not a beautiful woman without the context of American fashion. I feel the same way about Kim Kardashian butt, figure and face. She looks like a cartoon, but in the context of social media exhibitionism, she has made millions, due to a particular moment in global society.
But how is that different from any other model who was successful at that same time? White America is where the advertisers are; certainly no model can become world famous without conquering the American market. What is your point exactly? It's not like Cindy Crawford or Claudia Schiffer were unknowns in America. I don't think you can say with any certainty what people outside America will think of Kate Moss en masse. The world's a big place and there are all kinds of opinions in it. Kate Moss wasn't famous because of her association with famous designers; it's quite the opposite - famous designers chose to associate with her because they saw something distinctive in it. Beauty alone does not rule success in the modeling business. Successful models have something else. It's something distinctive, or else it's their chameleon quality, the ability to change looks while remaining themselves. There are gorgeous women winning beauty contests every day who are way more beautiful than famous models, but they'd never succeed in modeling. Why? Who knows. It's just a different set of qualities. For me, I think Paulina is very beautiful but she's more conventional. You can easily imagine there would be many Paulinas in the world. Moss has a unique look.
Ha ha !! IRL, there are a lot more of Kate Moss kind of girls, looking cheap and common and fairly below average in beauty. She may have something that appealed to American masses but she is not beautiful. Paulina is stunningly beautiful and there are very few girls who are stunningly beautiful IRL. Women liked Kate Moss because she was common and not more beautiful than them. They did not have the same jealous reaction to Kate Moss that they have to a say a looker like Kate Middleton or Gwyenth Paltrow.
