For overweight, basic America f yeah! flyover families, no. For people in far desirable places like NYC and Paris, yes. Four people living in a 4,000 sq ft house sounds like a depressing, isolated existence. A recipe for checked out kids who end up brooding in their lonely wing of the home.
I don't get how you come up with that. Our house is just under 4,000 sqft. Mom and dad, two kids. No one has their own lonely wing or is checked out. First floor: large family room/dining room combo, large kitchen, playroom, guest suite. Second floor: three bedrooms, two bathrooms, DH's office. Where's the space to do all that brooding? Should the kids not have bedrooms? We don't even have a formal dining room! We don't need it, it just shows that the house that size isn't large at all.
