Svetlana. My DH couldn't pronounce it, my Russian family told me it was a hick name. (Sorry to all the Svetlanas here.)
I had a college classmate named Svetlana, also from a Russian family, and she was called "Svetie" with first the first e as a long vowel sound, so it rhymed with Sweetie -- cute and distinctive. So many of the names here are lovely, including some that DH and I considered and then abandoned for names we considered more classic, though not too common. That was many years ago and now we are soon-to-be first-time grandparents. While we would never dream of commenting on the names that our children and their wonderful partners choose for their own babies, we do hope they'll go with something a little more out there. To all you moms and moms-to-be, enjoy this (rainy) day of celebration of your love and nurturing!
