(if they even still have encyclopedias at school?)[/quote] No. I think you teach kids to be respectful of differences. My Jewish kid was never told to pretend Santa existed. That’s not her job. But she was taught to respectfully discuss any differences in beliefs. I’ve heard her discuss Santa with friends in 2-3 grade. And she said things like “I don’t get gifts from Santa because we don’t celebrate Christmas.” I never heard her deal with a direct question on his existence, but I’m not sure how common that would be from a kid that strongly believes. It was mainly logistical! But, seriously, this totally mirrors living and working with people with all sorts of different beliefs. My Jewish kid is a peer, not thier parent, and as long as she’s not rude, she can discuss these differences. [/quote]
