Spirit should have ID sessions soon as well. Contrary to what some posters say, Wash. Spirit does support playing up for top 08s. Here is last Winter's description of teams and ages: The Washington Spirit field two clubs in the U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy. Virginia, which trains and plays games primarily in Reston, Va. and Baltimore, which trains primarily in Columbia, Md., and plays primarily at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown. For 2018/19 both Academies will field teams as follows, with roster sizes of 18-20 players, but also with the ability to move players “up” as needed to maximize their development: Birth Years – Age Group Label 2007/2006 – U13 2006/2005 – U14 2005/2004 – U15 2004/2003 – U16 (EDP Team in Virginia Only, players eligible to play limited DA games) 2003/2002 – U17 2001/2000 – U19
Playing up should be reserved for exceptional players--meaning that the player who is playing up an age group should be in the top 4-5 players in that older age group. Clubs that use playing up to fill teams should be avoided.
got it - stick with your current club and keep paying for another year of ncsl and don't explore opportunities. :-/ the WS organization is probably a crappy program and offers no development and no way could they do anything for my 08 green player because they are just fillin' rosters :-/
You may want to consider that U13 GDA is a pilot and it was just announced that the boys DA is dropping U12 out of the program across the board next year, and following with U13 the year after. If many 2008s play up in the pilot at U13 next year, will they all be able to make U14 the following year? There will likely be no opportunity for them to play U13 GDA in the year where they will actually be U13. Then you're back to finding a club for the U13 year.
