-Comfort (seat warmers, softer ride, don’t feel potholes, etc) -More features, including safety features If you look at cars now, they have come a long way from cars with back-up cameras. DH just bought a $65k car because he has a ridiculous daily commute and it has features like auto drive in traffic (it slows down and speeds up, brakes for you if someone brakes fast), and sensors all around so you always know if there’s someone in your blind spot, or if a kid runs out into the street when you’re backing up, thinks like that. ..
Except you don't have to spend $65k for all that. I have a 2018 Hyundai with all those features. Spent $25k and have the auto drive in traffic (they call it adjustable cruise control), auto breaking, cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitor (it adjusts for speed, too....the warning light comes on sooner if the approaching car is going faster), lane drift alert, heated steering wheel, air-conditioned leather seats, vertically adjustable lumbar support (helpful for us shorties!), back-up "beeps" if within 12 inches of an object, all sorts of things. This was my first "mainstream" car. Up until now, I bought luxury models because that was the only way to get the latest features. When I went shopping this year, I discovered that with the top trim of mainstream models, you get the same stuff. What you give up is some nicer accoutrements, and possibly status, and that wasn't worth doubling my costs. In my opinion.
