Not all PTA's want time.  I've tried to volunteer many times.  The few things they agree to me volunteering the same group is there and its pretty clear I am not wanted.  I tried again this year when an email went out and got no response.  So, this year I give up.  All they want is money or stuff but I have no idea how the money is used.  I don't care about movie nights as we have outside activities and cannot go.  There are groups that do free assemblies (I've suggested some that are nice/different) and we don't do school gifts.  Classroom teachers get nothing.  So, yes, I will slack at the PTA and only do for our teacher.  [/quote]

What school are you in?  Are you somewhere where most people at SAHPs?  I've had my kids at two different schools in the DC area and they're always begging for volunteers because most people work.[/quote]

I am going to guess that she only wants to volunteer for specific things, like the classroom parties.  I can't imagine people turning down her offer to help reshelve books at the library or sweep up popcorn after movie night.
