Whoa--a lot of drama in here. I'm an 04 WS VA parent and don't see any big issues. I'm happy with the way the team is progressing from last year. We all knew about the issue with the age group going combined. I'm with the people who think that people who don't like the EDP option should leave and should have thought more about it earlier. This is really more an issue to take up with US Soccer, who set the age groups. Who knows, they may change it soon to help in future years. Overall it's not a good way to judge WS in general, as they are doing lots of things the right way.
You're fine with ~80 kids all crammed onto a field? Ok, if that works for you. I think WS does some things right. It's why I signed up for a second year, but it doesn't mean I'm giving a free pass on the rest. I will give them a little time to even it out, but then they have to do better. And I see the politics other posters have talked about too, but I think in the end, those folks only expose their own kid to the wrong type of challenge and put them in an environment where they can't excel, so it will work itself out. Playing up doesn't always lead to playing better; sometimes being in your own age group does.
80 kids like that? That does sound crazy. At our club they schedule a half hour of buffer time between team practices so that previous team can get a final word from the coach and leave. This then gives the coach 20 minutes to set the field up for the next practice, go over his notes before the other team even arrives. The coach will also use this 30 minutes in between sessions to have one on ones with the players and they will sometimes go over film on the players last game on the iPad. SAID NO ONE EVER!!!!! If you honestly believe that Spirit is the only club that has back to back practices with the next team up milling about on the sideline then you are a loon.
