As a hopelessly elitist northeasterner and an unabashed education snob I think of W&L as a middling, provincial little college. I question the culture there as well. The only reason gifted children would attend is that they must have some sort of bizarre affinity for southern culture and Greek life. Any reasonable child with an enlightened worldview and high stats would eschew W&L for a more well regarded LAC....take your pick of the NESCACs. Working in finance in NYC I can assure you that those degrees carry weight whereas very few have even heard of W&L and those that have will likely share my opinion.
+1. I had not heard of it until we toured for DC. I went to top Slac and Ivy Law. DW went to top SLAC. We simply didn't get why some students want to go there. Maybe it's family tradition or the Greek system but It was a lost day of touring for us. DC was more interested in VMI next door!
You’re a snob but you don’t know a top ten SLAC. Sorry but you’re more of a dumbass.
You’re one of those sheep that mindlessly follow USNWR rankings. Nobody that actually understands the relative atenfths of LACs would rank W&L in the top 10 or even 25 for that matter. Go back to reading your magazines and let the adults carry on.
Not a huge fan of W&L, but I haven't seen a single LAC ranking where it isn't in the top 25. US News- 10th Forbes- 11th Kiplinger- 4th Niche- 6th Times Higher Ed- 21st CollegeChoice- 9th CollegeRaptor- 16th CollegeConsensus- 9th Washington Monthly- 5th Payscale- 7th MONEY- 1st If just about every single ranking puts it in the top 25, if not top 10, each evaluating different metrics like inputs (US News), outputs (Forbes), student experience (Niche), financial aid (Kiplinger), job ROI (Payscale/Money), and social benefit (Washington Monthly), and you think W&L is not among the most elite LACs out there, you are definitely ignorant and it has nothing to do with the school, just you.
Don’t be ridiculous. Top Five has this all figured out. He and Mrs. Top Five don’t need anything but their as-yet-unrevealed metrics, for which we are all patiently waiting. Don’t let us down Top Five!
