Nothing comparable to TJ in MCPS.
Did you see the Blair magnet list?
Nothing comparable to TJ (450-500 kids per class) in MCPS.
TJ students are from multiple NoVa counties. If it were only a Fairfax County school, its graduating class would be closer to the size of the Blair magnet. You really can't compare these apples and oranges.
2/3 of an average graduating class of about 420 are from FCPS. So 280 kids (Some years more, so less. They start at 480 kids , and lose kids who can’t or don’t to keep up. So usually 420-430 grads). FCPS has more than 180k kids over 13 grades. That averages to 14k kids/ grade, and therefore graduate each year (likely smaller. FCPS is growing, so the lower grades are bigger. And not all seniors graduate. So, say 12,500 grads). Do the math— 2% of FCPS kids graduate from TJ (280 kids/ 12,500 grades). The TJ numbers are interesting. But the base school numbers are more important, because that is 98% of kids . The 2% of kids who get in would do well anywhere. The 2% number is rough and maes assumptions (like kids from all school systems drop out equally. Given the commute from PSPWC and LC, these kids may drop out more). But it is close. — parent of one TJ and one base school kid.
Closer to 70-75% of an average TJ graduating class is from FCPS, and the graduating classes have tended to range from 430 to 460. 420 would be a year with a lot of attrition. The Blair magnet is generally only 100 kids per class.
