SES level in WJ and Woodward, both will fall due to adding 2000 students from DCC. Nothing against DCC because I live here, but it's a simple fact. Test scores will also fall, but life will go on. If you are afraid of these outcomes then pick a different HS cluster.
The phrase “W” schools will lose its meaning when WJ and Woodward fill up with lower performers from the DCC.
Wow the racists are out today
Are you sure you aren’t the racist one equating lower performers with race?
Not the PP, but which part of above post sounded racist to you? I was considering WJ as well and I looked at test scores of DCC schools nearby. Test scores are going to be down a lot for sure. It's a simple logic of looking at current scores and averaging them. Not sure where race comes in picture here.
Why would WJ test scores drop? WJ’s new boundaries would likely pull from their current boundary, Whitman, and BCC.
WJ+Woodward --> 2000 empty seats. WJ takes 2000 kids who are not in W's then WJ scores will drop substantially. WJ and Woodward splits and takes 1000 each then both will go down in scores , but not as bad if both schools take 2000 from outside. Woodward takes 2000 kids then scores will be substantially lower than current WJ. BCC and Whitman are not really over crowded to fill those seats. BCC is even getting an extension. MCPS has clearly stated that Woodward is opening mainly to address WJ and DCC over crowding. You can check test scores of nearby schools in DCC. It's simply a case of adding 2 and 2 here. Not hard to predicts that scores will drop. Anyone saying that it's fear mongering needs to show it with hard numbers how it's even possible to not take a bit hit in test scores. I live in WJ and I don't see what benefit I will have by fear mongering here. I am just afraid that our house prices will go down in future unless we get slotted for WJ and Woodward ends of taking 2000 kids from outside.
Even with the addition BCC will be several hundred over capacity by the time Woodward opens. It seems likely that it would draw around 800 from WJ, other nearby overcrowded schools like Einstien would likely fill the gap along with BCC.
