Anyone who is in the waitpool should not sit on the sidelines. Speak up, give supplemental evidence, talk to the coordinator. Here the squeaky wheel gets the grease. BTDT.
Has anyone ever appealed a rejection (not waitlist) and gotten in? I don't know if I should even bother. Will the magnet coordinator be able to give me any information on the reason for the rejection? Good grades, scores exactly at median for accepted students.
If scores are exactly median of accepted students you have ground for appeal. Do it. Add all recommendations you can find from new set of teachers (Math, Science from 7th grade etc.) Any activities related too. Most likely there were many kids from your home HS with scores higher than your child's. They are trying to get approximately even representation from whole part of the county. You have nothing to loose. You child probably will be added to waitpool, but will not be chosen.
