Does MIL object to anything that isn't a dress or does she just think that dressing your girl in a "TRUCKS ROCK!" shirt and pants makes her look like a boy? How "boylike" was the T shirt? Honestly I can't tell if most babies are boys or girls and do rely on the clothing. baby hair rarely helps, assuming they even have hair.
DD was once dressed in a pink dress covered in a flower pattern, and I was asked if she was a boy or girl. OP, your MIL sounds annoying, but at this point her comments are harmless. They won't be when she is older, and that's the conversation that your DH needs to have with her. My MIL says stuff about our niece and nephew, mostly it's excusing horrible behavior in nephew as "oh, he's just a boy". And once going off on some ridiculous discussion about how nephew is "a genius", but niece is "a sweet girl". I LMAO when about a week later it turned out that niece had tested as the top math student in her class. At the same time, I put DH on notice that if MIL ever says anything like that near our kids she would not be welcome back unless she corrected her attitude. To me, your MIL's comments are only harmful if they are harbingers of future comments like the above.
