Mrs. Simpson is a real person who has no correlation to Wallis Simpson - puhleeze give me a break. Her establishment is, I believe, being carried forward by her daughter and/or other children. In any case, this is an exclusive establishment, and the best of the best socially are those who are invited to attend. You must be recommended - same deal as clubs. Our son attended in the 90s while at Landon, and while he "hated" going, there is no doubt it served him well, as did the cotillions he was invited to as a Midshipman at the Naval Academy. It has little in common with the typical "cotillions" and "manners classes" that dot the suburbs. It's the real deal. Some things you just cannot buy into.
It's not that exclusive. My DS was invited to attend after started going to a private school. We are not wealthy, don't belong to a Country Club and we don't have connections. We are just fortunate enough to be able swing private school for a few years. We won't be able to afford to send all three DC's so we will have to make a decision at that time. So I'm not sure who the exclusive people are. Most of DS's friends are regular people with Dr or Lawyer parents, no real political connections.
