Oh bull. If you look at hunter/gatherer societies there is very little evidence of this kind of patriarchal male domination of resources that women traded sex to get. Rather, prior to the agricultural revolution, it was more common for resources to be shared more equally among the tribe and [b]for women to be having sex with lots of guys[/b]. Agriculture led to the ability to stay in one place long enough for people to accumulate stuff. That, in turn, led to more modern notions of property rights which, in turn, made it more important for men to know which offspring were, in fact, their own. That increased the importance of controlling a woman's sexuality. Limitations on women's sexuality plus the development of property rights is what makes prostitution possible. The 10,000 years of human development since the agricultural revolution isn't, in any meaningful sense, "evolution." [/quote]

Maybe. But they were still opting to have sex with the guys who killed the most animals, built the biggest fires, crafted the coolest stuff, and told the funniest jokes. Because even before the formal notion of property rights, women have always been (and always will be) attracted to men who can offer them stuff - status, entertainment, material comforts, etc.

Just like men are attracted to women who appear fertile. It's really not that hard to grasp.
