What do you mean he could not rejoin the Marines?
Not the PP who suggested this but he was indeed ineligible to rejoin the Marines because of tattoos - ironically not the chest tattoo but because he had full sleeves which were banned under a new policy in 2007. The Army was fine with those at the time. This is from Rufus Gifford, former ambassador to Denmark among many other serious positions, on Threads: “Since Platner tattoo misinformation is still rampant, some level setting (only facts). If you don’t believe Graham, believe the US govt… 1) The marines he served with and got the same tattoo he did corroborate his story 2) Ironically he was rejected from re-enlisting in the Marines not due to the tattoo on his chest but due to the fact that he had tattoo "sleeves" which was a new policy as of 2007 3) Upon rejection from the Marines, he then went to enlist in the Army which requires a full body tattoo exam where specialists are trained to identify extremist tattoos. He was allowed to enlist. 4) He later received a State Dept top level security clearance which (having been through it twice) is one of the most excruciating processes and is in part trained to root out extremist ideologies and past bad behavior through conversations with virtually anyone you have ever had a meaningful relationship with (family, friends, employers, exes, landlords etc). His clearance was granted. None of this seems to have come up, until he ran for Senate and had millions of dollars of opposition research dumped on him from both the left and the right. 5) The only person to date who has contradicted his story is a woman with a clear political bias and has spent part of her career minimizing victims of sexual assault (she was a founder of women for Kavanaugh of all things) and has a long history in Republican campaigns. Those are the facts. My point here is that of course this thing is offensive as hell. It’s good that he had it covered up. But sometimes you gotta give people the benefit of the doubt. And the haters never do.”
PP, you are quoting me. Thank you for the correction. I actually don't mind being corrected with the facts. What I don't like is being gaslit like the PPP was attempting to do when she said he was not allowed to reenlist in the Marines while leaving out the pertinent part you articulated and I highlighted, as he reenlisted in the Army and went on to serve in Afghanistan. I knew he spent multiple years in the military and reenlisted. I was wrong about the branch of service.
