You would love to witness the chaos that rationing would create, wouldn’t you?
I kind of hope Biden does this, because it would be hilarious to see how many Democratic members of Congress would lose their jobs over it come November. It would be exactly the type of shoot themselves in the foot action we've come to expect from the Biden administration.
I think people forget (or don't about) how much chaos was created by gas rationing in the seventies and it's "moral equivalence to war."
We obviously survived the gas rationing of the 70’s just fine, didn’t we? There’s no reason it wouldn’t work again.
As president, Jimmy Carter did not survive it.
Rationing makes people think of failed and semi-failed states, like Venezuela. I doubt that’s something Biden and the Dems want to be associated with right before the mid-terms.
If people understand that the purpose of rationing is to punish the oil companies and gas station operators who are gouging prices right now, they’ll be all for it. But the optics of it have to be communicated effectively. People need to understand the point of the rationing is to stabilize prices and limit profiteering by big oil. When they see oil companies as the enemy, they will applaud the administration for going after them.
You’re either delusional or engaged in parody of an economically clueless liberal.
I have a lot more good will toward Oil companies that power the world doing hard work than lazy overpaid government grifters staring at their computer screens… never getting a pay cut … getting more time off every year and running a 30 trillion dollar red ink sloppy enterprise. How do we punish them?
I hope you're being sarcastic. Companies are out to make a profit, and energy companies don't care about polluting your local environment, holding you hostage with one choice of energy, one price, etc. They do not work in YOUR interest, they do not protect YOU, and if you sue, their lawyers will make sure to crush you. The government does help you, in so many ways. I don't understand people who criticize governments. Sure, all institutions in the world are wasteful, because it's really hard to curb spending when an organization reaches a certain size (there's a lot of waste in large businesses as well, BTW), but the governments try, at least, to serve the people. Free public education, community college, lowering the cost of healthcare (we need to do a LOT more work in this area), emergency services, roads and bridges, utilities, trash and recycling, parks, libraries, support for the arts, local activities for children, tax breaks for certain populations, social security, services to the needy and elderly, federal oversight (even if flawed) of pollution in water, air and soil, land and wildlife management, defense, trade, international negotiations and regulations to protect the interests of the USA... the list is interminable and that's why it costs so much. Don't pretend that you don't benefit from multiple local, state and federal government services. I will add one more thing. My husband works at the NIH, where thousands of scientists from all over the world develop treatments for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, etc. These are government employees, saving your life and that of your loved ones. Whenever someone makes a snide remark about lazy government workers, I think of all these PhDs and MDs toiling away for low pay (relative to their years of study) to better understand human diseases and save lives. Your life. Your ignorant, ungrateful, completely clueless little self.
Over paid. The government needs to cut pay until it breaks even. 1 trillion of red ink every year is sloppy and lazy
